This site is dedicated to improving Man’s relationship to technology. First, by discussing an “original”, or Paleo state of Mankind in a pre-technology environment (Man’s state of affairs just before he learns to shape metals about 10,000 years ago). Then, by looking at how some technology actually interacts with the Human physique over time, pointing out where there might be issues, and possibly suggesting improvements.
I am reminded of a 1979 Film called “The Jerk” which starred Steve Martin as the inventor of an eye-glass innovation in which he adds a handle (called the Opti-Grab) to the glasses to make it easier to take them on and off. The handle was unfortunately mounted right between the eyes. Over time, the device ended up making people cross-eyed, and they sued – a interesting plot twist to a very strange, but funny movie.
The point being that invention and innovation are constant. And it seems that all salesmen are enthusiastic and can tell you many, many reasons to buy their new and improved product. But, in all fairness, they may not truly know of any long-term effects. Sometimes the effects are so delayed the are never connected to the product at all.
The technology in question includes innovations in farming (food, GMO’s, diets), fashion (footwear, eye-wear), sanitation (toilets), and sports (running shoes, workout routines, and more) – just to name a few categories!
The aim is a rational dialog about what science has done to improve our lives, without assuming that all Human “improvement” comes cost-free. With the up-front admission that sometimes the cost is worth the comfort, the truth is, we are rarely aware of any cost at all.
